Today, Madilyn went to the doctor. We posted before about her reflux. Well, at our "well" appointment last Tuesday, the doctor told us that her case seemed to be mild, but to watch for a few things: irritability, choking, spit-up, etc. By Friday of last week, we saw an increase in these events, so we called the doctor and he called us in some medicine - a very low dose of a not-so-strong medicine. So, we gave it to her. The first few days she didn't swallow all of it, but did better the last few. Well - Wednesday and Thursday, she slept most all day AND night. We knew this was a little more than typical....Jennifer even had to wake Madilyn up to feed her. So, after much debating because we didn't want to be "silly," we called the doctor. The nurse said to go ahead and bring her in because they needed to check her out - she had never heard of that medication making babies sleepy before. So, we were a little worried....we took her off the medicine last night and this morning....and she did GREAT today! After she ate at 7:30 this morning, she only slept 1 hour between 8 and 12....(and has been awake most of the afternoon, too.) We went to the doctor anyway and he said to take her off the medicine...he had seen the medicine make
old ladies sleepy, but not babies. :) But, he said that it wasn't anything to worry about. He said to tough it out because he didn't think her reflux was bad enough to go to the next level. Most babies will be over reflux issues by 6 months. ANYWAY - I said a lot to say that she's doing good.
Some of you may be shaking your head at us...but we just want to make sure that the sweetest gift God gave us (aside from salvation) is ok. This is our first and we don't know what to expect or what to do. Yes, we know that babies spit up. Yes, we know that babies sleep. But when she sleeps much more than she should and when she seems to choke on her spit-up, we tend to worry a little. She is so special to us!!! I don't know what we ever did without her!
Jennifer has been back to work this week giving the benchmark test. THANKFULLY, she's done! So, it's been a hectic week. Mammaw Raley came Tuesday night and left last night and took GREAT care of Madi while we were at work. Here is a couple of pictures from the week - we haven't taken many because it's been crazy around here!!

I understand taking her to the doctor, we went through something similar. Things will get better! Nora spit up a ton for like the first 8 mos or so. But she did eventually grow out of it.
